About the Author
I worked with docents in the Nelson-Atkins Art
Museum, Kansas City; and with rare books,such as Books of Hours in the Archives of Regis University, Denver. I combined my knowledge from jobs at both institutions to create acurate plots involving two time periods: the medieval world, and the modern world .
A Book of Hours is the first prayer book authorized by the church in the middle ages for home use. Lady Bridgette hires craftsmen to create Books of Hours to generate money from sales to feed the knights protecting her castle while her husband is fighting the 7th Crusade in Jerusalem.
Nine centuries later, Graham Lasky, director of the Bernard Museum, aquires a Book of Hours at auction. Many people want access to the Book of Hours: a major doner,dying of cancer to enjoy the illluminations; a Trustee to sell and cover his real estate debts; a curator to validate carbon dating proving his theory and justifying his directorship, when the current director retires.
As a result of all these claiming their need for the Book of Hours, a murder occurs.
When Lasky’s close friend and a major donor, asks Lasky to have the book to enjoy, for a few days, Lasky agrees to this illegal request.
